VS Hospitals has introduced the VELYS Robotic-Assisted System at its Kilpauk facility in Chennai, enabling highly precise, personalized knee replacement surgeries reducing the need for pre-op CT scans and aiming for better alignment, less pain, and faster recovery.
Glimpse:
VS Hospitals a reputed multispecialty centre in Chennai inaugurated its robotic arthroplasty programme using the VELYS system. The technology provides real-time surgical insights, optimizes implant placement, and uses a “CT-free” workflow to reduce radiation exposure. The launch was marked by a notable clinic event featuring dignitaries and orthopaedic experts.
VS Hospitals in Chennai has officially launched a robotic-assisted knee replacement offering, powered by the VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution, at its Kilpauk campus. The system is designed to offer surgeons highly precise, real-time data during operations including alignment, soft-tissue balance, and bone resection to improve surgical outcomes.
A key advantage of this VELYS system is its CT-free workflow, meaning it does not require pre-operative computed tomography scans. According to Prof. Dr. S. Sundar, Medical Director and Robotic Arthroplasty Surgeon at VS Hospitals, this capability reduces both cost and radiation exposure for patients. The technology uses optical tracking and precision-guided tools to assist surgeons in real time, enhancing implant placement accuracy and overall surgical confidence.
The robotic arthroplasty service is part of VS Hospitals’ broader orthopaedic centre which already performs a range of advanced joint procedures, including total hip replacements, revision surgeries, and tumour-saving limb surgeries. The hospital also supports a strong post-operative ecosystem with 24-hour CT services, physiotherapy, and computer-assisted rehabilitation, ensuring patients benefit from a full continuum of care.
To celebrate the launch, VS Hospitals offered free orthopaedic consultations for the rest of the month. The inauguration was attended by former cricketer Dinesh Karthik, VS Hospital leadership including Prof. Sundar, Prof. Subramanian, and senior executive management signaling the institution’s commitment to bringing state-of-the-art orthopaedic care to the region.
“With innovations like robotic-assisted systems, we can offer our patients more accurate procedures, improved outcomes, and a faster return to their daily activities.”
