India Crosses 93 Lakh Milestone in Ayushman Vay Vandana Cards, Expanding Healthcare Security for Seniors

India has issued over 93 lakh Ayushman Vay Vandana Cards for senior citizens, strengthening access to free healthcare services under the Ayushman Bharat framework. The initiative marks a major step toward inclusive and affordable healthcare for the elderly population across the country.

Glimpse:

The Ayushman Vay Vandana scheme is rapidly expanding healthcare coverage for senior citizens by enabling cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals. With over 93 lakh cards already issued, the programme is improving access to essential medical services while reducing out-of-pocket expenses for elderly households.

India has issued more than 93 lakh Ayushman Vay Vandana Cards to senior citizens, reinforcing the government’s commitment to universal healthcare access for the elderly. The initiative, introduced under the Ayushman Bharat umbrella, is specifically designed to ensure that citizens aged 70 years and above can avail themselves of quality medical treatment without financial hardship.

The Vay Vandana cards allow eligible seniors to receive cashless healthcare services at empanelled public and private hospitals across India. The scheme covers a wide range of medical procedures, diagnostics, hospitalisation services and post-treatment care, significantly easing the burden of rising healthcare costs for aging populations.

Officials note that the strong uptake of the scheme reflects growing awareness and trust in government-backed digital health programmes. The issuance drive has been supported by state governments, health departments and local healthcare institutions working together to ensure smooth enrolment and verification processes.

With India’s senior citizen population steadily increasing, the Ayushman Vay Vandana initiative is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening preventive care, early diagnosis and timely treatment, while contributing to the broader goal of equitable and sustainable healthcare delivery nationwide.

β€œThe Ayushman Vay Vandana programme ensures that no senior citizen is denied healthcare due to financial constraints, bringing dignity and security to aging lives.”
