Andhra Pradesh Sets National Record with 4.84 Crore ABHA Registrations: Pioneering India’s Digital Health Revolution

Andhra Pradesh has emerged as India’s leader in digital health by creating 4.84 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA), covering 96% of its population under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). This milestone, supported by extensive infrastructure and innovative strategies, positions the state as a model for nationwide healthcare digitization.

Glimpse:

Andhra Pradesh has achieved a national record by generating 4.84 crore ABHA IDs, integrating 7.50 crore electronic health records and registering 26,083 hospitals and 65,242 health professionals under ABDM. The state’s success, driven by door-to-door surveys, robust digital infrastructure, and high-level monitoring, earned a ₹22 crore incentive from the Centre since April 2023. This leadership highlights Andhra’s pivotal role in advancing India’s digital health ecosystem.

Andhra Pradesh has solidified its position as the frontrunner in India’s digital health transformation, registering an unprecedented 4.84 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA), covering nearly 96% of its population. Announced by Secondary Health Director KVN Chakradhar Babu during a seminar in Mangalagiri on December 19, 2025, this achievement under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) showcases the state’s innovative approach and robust infrastructure.

The ABHA system, a 14-digit unique identifier akin to Aadhaar for healthcare, enables patients to digitally store and access medical histories, lab reports, and treatment details securely with consent. Andhra Pradesh has synchronized 7.50 crore electronic health records with these accounts, ensuring seamless data integration across healthcare facilities. Additionally, 26,083 hospitals (including all government-run facilities) are listed in the Health Facility Registry (HFR), and 65,242 health professionals are enrolled in the Health Professional Registry (HPR).

The state’s success stems from a multi-pronged strategy: door-to-door surveys under the non-communicable disease (NCD) program, strategic deployment of 1,900 computers across Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, PHCs, UPHCs, and secondary care hospitals, and rigorous monitoring by senior officials. These efforts, combined with training programs and incentive payments, have enabled Andhra Pradesh to outpace other states, as noted in a study by the Bengaluru-based Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR). The study compared India’s progress to global leaders like Finland, which began health digitization two decades ago, underscoring Andhra’s rapid advancement in just four years.

For its leadership, Andhra Pradesh received a ₹22 crore financial incentive from the Centre since April 2023, alongside its regular ₹18.5 crore ABDM budget. This funding supports further expansion, including the state’s ‘Sanjeevani’ pilot in Kuppam, which Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced will scale statewide to create comprehensive health risk profiles with collaboration from global experts like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Nationally, over 76 crore ABHA IDs have been created, with 51 crore health records linked, but Andhra Pradesh’s 96% population coverage surpasses states like Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan, which trail in per-capita registrations. The state’s adoption of ABDM’s “Scan & Share” feature allowing instant OPD registration via QR codes has also streamlined patient access, contributing to the national tally of over nine crore tokens issued, saving an estimated 90 crore minutes in hospital queues.

This milestone not only enhances healthcare accessibility and efficiency but also positions Andhra Pradesh as a global case study in digital health innovation, setting a high bar for other states to follow.

“Andhra Pradesh’s leadership in creating 4.84 crore ABHA accounts reflects our commitment to a digital health revolution, ensuring every citizen’s medical history is accessible, secure, and empowering better care.”
