Telangana Food Safety Teams Uncover Synthetic Colours and Adulterated Ghee in Sweet Shops Ahead of Diwali

Ahead of Diwali, Telangana’s Food Safety teams have intensified inspections in sweet shops across the state. Their efforts have led to the discovery of synthetic food colours and adulterated ghee in several establishments, raising concerns about food safety during the festive season.

Glimpse:

During routine checks, officials found that some sweet shops were using non-permitted synthetic colours to enhance the appearance of sweets. Additionally, samples of ghee collected from various shops were found to be adulterated, posing potential health risks to consumers.

In the lead-up to Diwali, a festival known for its sweets and delicacies, Telangana’s Food Safety teams have been conducting thorough inspections in sweet shops across the state. These inspections are part of a statewide initiative to ensure that food products meet safety standards and are free from harmful substances.

During these inspections, officials discovered that some sweet shops were using synthetic food colours that are not permitted under food safety regulations. These artificial colours can pose health risks, especially when consumed in large quantities, and are banned for use in food products.

Furthermore, samples of ghee collected from various sweet shops were found to be adulterated. Adulteration of ghee not only compromises its quality but can also be harmful to health, leading to digestive issues and other health complications.

In response to these findings, the Food Safety teams have taken immediate action. They have issued notices to the concerned establishments, instructing them to cease the use of synthetic colours and to ensure that their ghee products are pure and free from adulterants. Additionally, the teams have collected samples for further laboratory testing to confirm the extent of the adulteration.

The Food Safety authorities have also warned other sweet shops to adhere strictly to food safety standards and to avoid the use of harmful substances in their products. They have emphasized the importance of consumer safety, especially during the festive season when the demand for sweets is high.

β€œEnsuring the safety of food products is our top priority. We urge all sweet shops to comply with food safety standards and provide consumers with products that are safe and healthy.”
