Apollo Unveils 5G-Connected Ambulance as a ‘Hospital on Wheels’ for Emergency Care

Apollo Hospitals has launched a 5G-enabled ambulance service that streams real-time patient telemetry and video to its command centre and ER teams effectively turning the ambulance into a mobile emergency room.

Glimpse:

The smart ambulance is equipped with advanced medical equipment, onboard cameras, and telemetry devices. Through 5G connectivity, it transmits vital signs, location, and live video to hospital specialists, allowing them to guide paramedics and prepare for patient arrival.

Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals has rolled out a state-of-the-art 5G-connected ambulance, powered by low-latency network infrastructure and HealthNet Global’s connected care solutions.  This vehicle allows paramedics to send real-time telemetry like ECG, blood pressure, and other vital parameters to hospital clinicians even before arriving.

In addition to vitals, the ambulance carries on-board cameras that provide live video feed to ER doctors. This enables remote guidance from specialists in critical situations, helping with decision-making during what is often the “golden hour.” The system also tracks the ambulance’s GPS location, enabling better coordination with the hospital’s command centre.

Apollo’s leadership believes this connected ambulance can dramatically improve emergency response outcomes by starting treatment in transit. As Dr. K. Hari Prasad, President–Hospitals Division (Apollo), put it, “Real-time access to diagnostics and specialist support can make all the difference in saving lives.”

“With 5G, our ambulance is no longer just transport it becomes an extension of the ER, enabling live care and guidance even before the patient reaches the hospital.”
