Jammu & Kashmir Approves ₹400 Cr for Advanced Medical Equipment Procurement

The Jammu and Kashmir government has sanctioned ₹400 crore for the procurement of state-of-the-art medical equipment to upgrade public hospitals and health institutions. The funding will strengthen diagnostic, critical care, surgical, and emergency services across the Union Territory, aiming to reduce referrals to outside centres and improve treatment outcomes for residents.

Glimpse:

The ₹400 crore allocation targets high-end diagnostic tools (MRI, CT, ultrasound), critical care equipment (ventilators, monitors, defibrillators), modular operation theatres, and specialized devices for cardiology, oncology, and trauma care. It will benefit major hospitals in Srinagar and Jammu, district hospitals, and primary care facilities enhancing capacity in remote and hilly regions while aligning with national health goals.

The Administrative Council of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has approved a ₹400 crore plan for the procurement of advanced medical equipment, marking a significant boost to the region’s public healthcare infrastructure. The decision, taken in early 2026, addresses long-standing shortages of modern diagnostic and therapeutic devices in government-run hospitals, particularly in remote districts and high-altitude areas.

The procurement package includes: Advanced imaging systems MRI machines, multi-slice CT scanners, high-resolution ultrasound, digital mammography, and C-arm units Critical care & life-support equipment ventilators, multipara monitors, defibrillators, ECMO-capable setups, and high-flow oxygen systems Surgical & procedural tools modular operation theatres, laparoscopic systems, anaesthesia workstations, and endoscopic equipment Specialized diagnostics automated pathology analysers, molecular testing platforms, and cardiac cath lab components

The equipment will be distributed across key facilities, including Government Medical Colleges in Srinagar and Jammu, district hospitals, and select CHCs. Priority has been given to trauma care, maternal & child health, non-communicable diseases (cancer, cardiac), and emergency services—areas where timely access to advanced diagnostics can save lives.

Officials emphasized that the initiative will reduce the need for patients to travel outside J&K for investigations and treatment, easing financial and logistical burdens on families. The procurement process will follow transparent e-tendering norms, with emphasis on quality certification, after-sales service, and maintenance support.

This major investment aligns with the UT’s broader healthcare vision of equitable, high-quality services, complementing national programs like Ayushman Bharat and PMJAY while addressing unique geographic and climatic challenges.

“This ₹400 crore investment will bring world-class diagnostic and treatment facilities to every corner of Jammu and Kashmir.”
