SSO was set up in 2021 by a cohort of seven cancer surgeons led by Dr Sanket Mehta to address critical gaps in India’s surgical oncology  notably long waiting periods, overcrowded hospitals, and limited access to advanced, organ-specific cancer surgery. 

With the fresh funding from Everhope Oncology  the specialized cancer-care investment platform started in 2025 SSO plans to expand aggressively across Western India. The investment will support the launch of three new hospitals in Mumbai, along with infrastructure upgrades, recruitment of clinical staff, and implementation of systems to deliver high-quality, affordable cancer surgery. 

SSO’s model emphasises organ-specific surgical teams  enabling complex procedures (open, minimally invasive, robotic, and cytoreductive surgeries) that general-surgery centers may not routinely handle. This focused, specialist-only model aims to improve outcomes and reduce delays for cancer patients  a pressing need in a country where nearly two million new cancer cases are recorded annually. 

SSO’s founders and investors believe that this funding round marks “a defining moment” in institutionalising a scalable, high-quality, surgeon-led cancer-care network in India. Over time, the organisation aims to expand beyond Maharashtra and Gujarat, pushing accessible specialised oncology care closer to where patients live.
