Torrent Group, a leading Indian conglomerate known for pharmaceuticals and power, has made its foray into the hospital sector with the announcement of a ₹750 crore, 500+ bed multispecialty hospital in Ahmedabad. This greenfield project, located in the city’s western corridor, aims to deliver advanced tertiary care and position Torrent as a comprehensive healthcare player.

Glimpse:

The state-of-the-art facility will feature cutting-edge infrastructure for oncology, cardiology, neurology, orthopaedics, and critical care, with phased development targeting partial operations by 2027–28. Backed by Torrent’s strong pharma arm (Torrent Pharmaceuticals), the hospital will leverage synergies in research, diagnostics, and patient care addressing Ahmedabad’s growing demand for premium, integrated services.

Torrent Group has officially diversified into hospital healthcare with plans for a ₹750 crore, over 500-bed multispecialty hospital in Ahmedabad, marking a strategic expansion beyond its core pharmaceuticals and power businesses. The announcement underscores the group’s vision to build an end-to-end healthcare ecosystem, combining its established strengths in drug manufacturing with direct patient care delivery.

The greenfield project, situated in Ahmedabad’s rapidly developing western corridor, will be developed in phases. Initial beds are expected to become operational by 2027–28, with full capacity rollout following thereafter. The hospital will offer comprehensive tertiary services across key specialties oncology, cardiology, neurosciences, orthopaedics, gastroenterology, nephrology, and critical care supported by advanced diagnostics, modular operation theatres, and intensive care units.

Torrent Group’s entry leverages synergies with Torrent Pharmaceuticals (a top-10 Indian pharma company with strong oncology and cardiology portfolios), enabling integrated research, clinical trials, and personalized treatment pathways. The facility aims to cater to Ahmedabad’s affluent and middle-class segments, competing with established players like Apollo, Sterling, and Zydus while emphasizing quality, transparency, and patient-centric design.

This move aligns with India’s booming hospital sector, driven by rising chronic diseases, medical tourism, and insurance penetration. Torrent’s deep financial resources and land bank in Gujarat provide a solid foundation for scalable, high-standard care.

The project also reflects corporate India’s growing interest in healthcare infrastructure amid post-pandemic priorities for resilient systems.

“This hospital will integrate our pharmaceutical expertise with world-class clinical care, delivering holistic health solutions to the people of Gujarat and beyond.”
