Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ₹250 crore Medical Device Park in Rajkot, Gujarat, a flagship project under the National Medical Devices Policy aimed at boosting indigenous production of high-quality medical devices. The park is designed to attract investment, foster innovation, and reduce India’s dependence on imported medical equipment while creating thousands of jobs and positioning Gujarat as a major hub for medtech manufacturing.

The Rajkot Medical Device Park, developed by the Gujarat government in partnership with private players, spans over 200 acres and offers plug-and-play infrastructure, common testing facilities, R&D centres, and fiscal incentives to manufacturers of surgical instruments, disposables, diagnostics, implants, and high-end equipment. During the January 21, 2026 inauguration, PM Modi highlighted the park’s role in advancing self-reliance, improving affordability, and enhancing India’s global competitiveness in medical devices, aligning with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Medical Device Park in Rajkot, Gujarat, on January 21, 2026, marking a significant milestone in India’s journey toward self-reliance in medical device manufacturing. The ₹250 crore facility, developed by the Gujarat government with support from the central government’s National Medical Devices Policy, spans over 200 acres and is designed as a fully integrated industrial ecosystem to attract both domestic and international manufacturers.

The park features plug-and-play industrial plots, common effluent treatment plants, dedicated power and water infrastructure, advanced testing and calibration laboratories, R&D incubation centres, skill development facilities, and regulatory facilitation support. It targets production of a wide range of medical devices, including surgical instruments, disposables, diagnostic equipment, implants, orthopaedic devices, hospital furniture, and high-technology items such as imaging systems and minimally invasive tools.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi emphasised the strategic importance of the project: “Today, Rajkot is taking a big step toward making India a global leader in medical devices. This park will not only create jobs and boost exports but also ensure that high-quality healthcare reaches every Indian at affordable prices.” He highlighted how the facility aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which together aim to reduce India’s current 70–80% dependence on imported medical devices and position the country as a preferred manufacturing destination.

The Rajkot park is one of several medical device parks being developed across India under central and state initiatives. Gujarat has emerged as a frontrunner due to its established industrial base, strong pharma ecosystem, skilled workforce, and investor-friendly policies. The state government has offered long-term land leases at concessional rates, capital investment subsidies, power tariff rebates, stamp duty exemptions, and single-window clearances to make the park attractive to manufacturers.

Early anchor tenants and expressions of interest have already been received from leading Indian and international companies in surgical consumables, diagnostics, and high-end implants. The park is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs while contributing to the national goal of increasing the share of domestic medical device manufacturing to 50% of the market by 2030.

The inauguration reflects the government’s continued focus on healthcare self-reliance, especially after lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic regarding supply chain vulnerabilities for critical devices such as ventilators, oxygen concentrators, and diagnostic kits. By fostering a robust domestic ecosystem, the Rajkot Medical Device Park is poised to enhance affordability, ensure timely availability, and support India’s growing role as an exporter of medical technologies to emerging markets.

“This Medical Device Park in Rajkot will not only create jobs and boost exports but also ensure that high-quality healthcare reaches every Indian at affordable prices. It is a big step toward making India a global leader in medical devices.”
