Wipro GE Healthcare has launched the Signa Prime Elite, a high-end 1.5T MRI system fully designed and manufactured in India, featuring advanced AI algorithms for faster scans, superior image quality, and enhanced diagnostic precision. The launch strengthens India’s domestic medical device ecosystem and supports the government’s push for self-reliance in high-technology healthcare equipment.

Glimpse:

Announced on January 24, 2026, the Signa Prime Elite incorporates GE’s AIR Recon DL deep learning reconstruction technology, enabling up to 50% faster scan times, reduced motion artefacts, and sharper images particularly beneficial for paediatric, geriatric, and claustrophobic patients. The system is produced at Wipro GE’s state-of-the-art facility in Bengaluru and is priced competitively for the Indian market while meeting global regulatory standards (US FDA, CE, CDSCO). It is already being deployed in leading hospitals across India, with plans for export to other emerging markets.

Wipro GE Healthcare, the joint venture between Wipro Enterprises and GE HealthCare, has introduced the Signa Prime Elite, a fully indigenous 1.5T MRI system engineered and manufactured in India. The launch, held on January 24, 2026, at the company’s Bengaluru facility, represents a significant milestone in India’s journey toward self-reliance in advanced medical imaging technology.

The Signa Prime Elite is powered by GE’s latest AIR Recon DL deep learning reconstruction engine, which uses artificial intelligence to dramatically improve image quality while reducing scan times by up to 50%. This enables clearer visualisation of small structures, better differentiation of tissues, and fewer motion artefacts critical advantages when imaging children, elderly patients, or those who struggle to remain still. The system also features AIR Coils, which are lightweight, flexible, and patient-friendly, enhancing comfort during long scans.

Designed specifically for the Indian market, the Signa Prime Elite offers a smaller footprint, lower power consumption, and simplified installation requirements making it suitable for both urban hospitals and tier-2/3 city facilities where space and infrastructure constraints are common. It supports a wide range of clinical applications, including neuro, musculoskeletal, abdominal, breast, and cardiac imaging, with AI-assisted protocols that streamline workflow and improve diagnostic confidence.

Narasimham RV, Managing Director of Wipro GE Healthcare, highlighted the strategic importance of the launch: “The Signa Prime Elite is a proud ‘Made in India’ product that combines global technology leadership with local engineering excellence. By manufacturing here, we are not only reducing costs and lead times for Indian hospitals but also contributing to a stronger domestic medtech ecosystem that can serve the world.”

The system has already received CDSCO approval and is being installed in several prominent hospitals across India, with strong early feedback from radiologists on scan speed, image quality, and patient comfort. Wipro GE plans to ramp up production to meet both domestic demand and export opportunities in Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East markets with similar needs for high-performance, cost-effective imaging solutions.

The launch aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India initiatives, which prioritise local manufacturing of high-value medical devices. It also reflects growing global confidence in Indian medtech capabilities, as companies increasingly develop world-class products domestically rather than relying on imports.

“With the Signa Prime Elite, we are bringing world-class MRI technology to India manufactured in India, for India, and ready for the world making advanced diagnostics faster, more accessible, and more affordable.”
