Philips Unveils Industry-First Cath Lab Integration: CT-Guided PCI Takes Off

Published: October 29, 2025

Philips has introduced a pioneering system that integrates pre‐operative CT data with live C-arm movement during interventions. This innovation marking a major leap toward CT-guided percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)is embedded in its Azurion image-guided therapy platform.

Glimpse:

At the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) 2025 conference, Philips launched a new capability “Follow C-arm” that synchronises 3D coronary CT reconstructions with real-time C-arm angulation in the cath lab. This workflow innovation offers interventional cardiologists continuous anatomical context from CT alongside fluoroscopic guidance, potentially reducing contrast usage, radiation dose and procedure time.

Global health-tech leader Philips has announced a major advancement in interventional cardiology: a first-of-its-kind catheterisation-lab integration that embeds pre-operative CT data directly into the procedural workflow. The announcement was made October 27, 2025, at the TCT 2025 meeting.

The new system merges Philips’ Advanced Visualization Workspace (AVW) with the Azurion image-guided therapy platform via a capability named “Follow C-arm.” As the C-arm moves during a PCI procedure, the CT-derived 3D volume of the coronary arteries rotates in real time to match the angulation giving the operator an ‘inside-view’ of anatomy together with live X-ray guidance.

According to Philips, the move aligns with the increasing use of coronary CT angiography (CCTA) in global clinical guidelines as a first-line diagnostic tool, and helps bridge the gap between pre-procedural planning and intra-procedural execution. By leveraging the rich anatomical information of CT in the cath-lab setting, Philips expects improvements in workflow efficiency, reduced reliance on contrast agents, potentially lower radiation exposure, and enhanced procedural confidence especially for complex interventions.

However, Philips also notes the capability may not yet be available in all markets, pending regulatory clearances and local installations.

In short, this innovation marks a significant shift: CT moving from purely diagnostic/planning use into the active intervention workflow, and the cath-lab environment becoming more ‘image-intelligent’ in real time.

“By bringing pre-operative CT into the cath lab and linking it directly to the movement of the C-arm, we are delivering an industry-first that helps interventionalists prepare for and execute PCI procedures with greater confidence.”
