Thermo Fisher Scientific has committed over ₹160 crore to expand its Bengaluru Research & Development (R&D) Centre of Excellence, creating a 37,000 sq ft facility focused on antibody design, development and manufacturing with over 100 new high-skilled roles expected.

US-based Thermo Fisher Scientific has officially inaugurated an expanded R&D Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, investing over ₹160 crore (≈ US$19 million) into the project The enlarged facility spans about 37,000 sq ft and is designed to push forward antibody-related research and manufacturing covering immunoassays, protein and cell-based analyses, and advanced automation and analytics.
The expansion reflects Thermo Fisher’s long-term commitment to India’s life-sciences ecosystem. Senior company officials including Gianluca Pettiti (Executive Vice-President & Sector President, Life Sciences, Diagnostics & Applied Sector) emphasised the role of Bengaluru as a strategic innovation hub.
The Government of Karnataka, represented by the Minister for Electronics, IT & Biotechnology, Priyank Kharge, noted that this investment underscores the state’s ambition to build a global biotechnology hub.
On the human-capital side, the company expects to create more than 100 new high-skilled jobs in the coming years, leveraging Bengaluru’s deep research and talent pool. The facility builds on Thermo Fisher’s existing operations in India, which already include antibody development (2,000+ recombinant antibodies), validation programmes (25,000+ antibodies) and manufacturing of primary and secondary antibodies.
By enhancing local end-to-end capabilities from research through manufacturing Thermo Fisher aims to accelerate global timelines for biotechnology and diagnostics, while also strengthening India’s role in the global life-sciences research ecosystem.
