ICMR and Koita Foundation Sign MoU to Build Digital Health and AI Capacity

The partnership with ICMR's digital health institute will focus on validating AI tools, generating real-world evidence and building disease registries.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Koita Foundation have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen digital health and healthcare AI in India. ICMR's National Institute for Research in Digital Health (ICMR-NIRDH) is part of the collaboration.
The agreement was signed in the presence of ICMR Director General Dr. Rajiv Bahl and ICMR-NIRDH Director Dr. Mona Duggal.
Focus areas
The partners will work on building capacity in digital health and AI, validating digital health and AI solutions, and generating real-world evidence on how these tools perform. The MoU also covers data repositories, disease registries and support for the wider innovation ecosystem.
Context
The tie-up follows ICMR's partnership with IndiaAI in May on responsible use of artificial intelligence in healthcare.
The Koita Foundation already works with medical societies on digitisation. With the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India, it has set up a Centre for Digital Maternal Care that uses AI and clinic digitisation to help reduce maternal deaths.
