Telangana Medical Council Finds Unqualified Practitioners at Clinics in Kalwakurthy, Amangal

Surprise checks found commerce graduates, Class 10 pass-outs and AYUSH practitioners prescribing antibiotics, steroids and IV fluids; criminal cases are being filed.
The Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) has found a string of clinics in Kalwakurthy and Amangal mandals being run by people with no recognised qualification in modern medicine, during surprise inspections carried out on 2 October.
According to the council, the operators included B.Com graduates, people who had studied only up to Intermediate or Class 10, and a Pharm D graduate — all allegedly prescribing allopathic drugs, including antibiotics and steroids.
What inspectors found
At one clinic, an operator was allegedly practising under a false name. At another, a BAMS practitioner was found issuing prescriptions under the name of an MBBS doctor. Two nursing homes registered under BHMS practitioners were allegedly giving allopathic and paediatric treatment, including antibiotics and intravenous fluids. Diagnostic centres were found working without qualified pathologists.
The inspections were led by TGMC members Dr. G. Srinivas and Dr. Imran Ali. Dr. Srinivas said criminal cases and other legal action are being initiated against those responsible.
Legal action
Proceedings are being taken up under Section 22 of the Telangana Medical Practitioners Registration Act and the relevant sections of the National Medical Commission Act.
The drive is part of a wider crackdown by the council on unauthorised practice in rural Telangana, where patients often turn to the nearest available clinic without checking the practitioner's credentials. Doctors advise patients to confirm that the person treating them is registered with the State Medical Council before accepting injections or antibiotics.
