Robotics, AI and Nanoscience Will Drive Precision Health, Says Union Minister Jitendra Singh

The minister said 10,000 Indians have been genome-sequenced so far and spoke of newborn sequencing and tele-robotic care as future goals.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has said that robotics, artificial intelligence, genomics and nanoscience together will create a larger ecosystem for precision health and precision medicine, where treatment is tailored to a person's genetic profile and lifestyle.
He said robotics would move beyond surgery into other specialties, and that fields such as robotic endocrinology and robotic cardiology could emerge in the same way that AI has spread across medicine.
Genome India
Referring to the Genome India initiative, the minister said 10,000 individuals have been sequenced so far, and expressed hope that newborn gene sequencing could eventually be done across the country. Doing this for 1.4 billion people, he noted, would require the best use of AI and robotics.
Care across distances
Dr. Singh recalled performing a remote ultrasound on a person about 10,000 km away in Antarctica as an example of how tele-robotics can bring specialist expertise to patients without requiring them to travel.
He also pointed to India's changing disease profile, where lifestyle disorders now coexist with infectious diseases and increasingly affect younger people, calling for integrated technological and holistic approaches.
