Maharashtra MBBS Interns Seek Stipend Hike from ₹18,000 to ₹30,000 a Month

Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif has said the government is positive, and a proposal has gone to the finance department.
Medical interns in Maharashtra have asked the state government to raise their monthly stipend from ₹18,000 to ₹30,000.
The Association of State Medical Interns (ASMI) says interns carry a heavy clinical load — examining patients, handling emergency duties and ward work — while their stipend does not cover basic living expenses.
Talks with the minister
The association says it has sent about 15 representations over two months without a response. On 1 October, its representatives met Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif, who said the government was positive about an increase. The medical education department has forwarded a proposal to the planning and finance departments recommending a hike in line with recent increases in other states.
Neighbouring Chhattisgarh recently raised its MBBS intern stipend to ₹25,000 a month.
