Chandigarh Seeks ₹2,000 Crore from Centre for AIIMS-Level Regional Medical Hub

The proposed 1,000-bed hub in Sector 53 would include separate 500-bed centres for women and children and for super-speciality care.
Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria has sought ₹2,000 crore in central funding from Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda to build a Regional Medical Hub in Sector 53.
The proposal
The AIIMS-level institution would have 1,000 beds, split between a 500-bed Centre for Women and Child Healthcare and a 500-bed Centre for Super-Speciality Care covering trauma, cardiology, neurology and emergency services.
The project is estimated to cost ₹2,154 crore, including ₹1,704 crore for civil works and ₹450 crore for medical equipment. It is meant to serve patients from Chandigarh as well as Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, easing the load on PGIMER.
The administration has also asked for 36 additional postgraduate medical seats.
