Leaders of the two institutions discussed collaboration on AI-enabled care, telemedicine, medical devices and implants, and outreach to tribal communities.
IIT Hyderabad and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bibinagar are exploring a wider partnership to develop healthcare technologies, from AI-enabled clinical systems to medical devices and implants.
The talks were held between IIT Hyderabad Director Prof. B.S. Murty and AIIMS Bibinagar Executive Director Prof. Amita Aggarwal. Prof. G. Areas on the table
The institutions identified AI-enabled healthcare systems, digital health and telemedicine platforms, medical devices and advanced implants, disease research, and technologies that extend care to underserved populations as priority areas.
IIT Hyderabad brings strengths in artificial intelligence, drug discovery, molecular biology, advanced materials, biomedical engineering, imaging, sensors and nanotechnology. AIIMS Bibinagar contributes clinical expertise in infectious diseases, oncology, orthodontics and orthopaedics.
Building on an earlier MoU
The two had already signed a memorandum of understanding covering biomedical engineering, biotechnology and AI applications. The new discussions also bring in Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University in Mulugu for work on rural and tribal healthcare.
AIIMS Bibinagar was set up in 2019 under Phase VII of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana and represents an investment of more than ₹1,100 crore. The institute serves a large catchment of patients from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district and surrounding areas of Telangana.
